Good afternoon to current and new readers.

It has been a long and uneventful 11 years since the University of Wisconsin River Falls (UWRF) has had a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Challenge team. Furthermore, it had been 4 years since the UWRF campus has had an active Finance Club. In the spring of 2023, my friend Jared spearheaded the restart of the UWRF Finance Club (FC). One year later, our campus advisor, Professor Corcoran, met with the FC and discussed restarting the CFA team.

I am happy to announce that after 11 long years, UWRF has a CFA team, and I’m also pleased to say that I will lead the team as team captain. There is a lot I need to learn in the next two months as I prepare my team for victory over the other schools. Failure to lead and innovate on my end will not be accepted. Furthermore, I aim and hope that UWRF will have a team for every year after this year. Going forward, I hope UWRF can be a team everyone respects and understands poses a real challenge to the competition.

For this challenge, we met the other 17 teams in Minneapolis for Analyst Day, and we met with the Director of Investor Relations for Sun Country Airlines (SNCY). This year’s challenge is to analyze SNCY stock and determine if the company is a buy, hold, or sell. Along with the presentation from Sun Country, we heard from industry professionals about career advancement, ideas for the challenge, and ways in which we can work hard to improve our teams’ efforts.

Following the SNCY presentation, which included industry leaders, past winners, and judges, we transitioned to a mixer happy hour. This was by far my favorite, as I met with industry leaders in the finance space. It was awesome conversing with like-minded people on the topics I love to discuss. I met some great people yesterday, and I hope to continue to build off of those new connections I made.

I am eager and excited about the future. This challenge presents a new opportunity for UWRF to show the world what we’re made of. Furthermore, I am excited to lead my team to the best of my ability. It will be no small task; however, I remain optimistic about our chances of advancing in the challenge.
